Apparently the swim leg can get pretty cut throat with competitors grabbing, pulling, scratching etc. A friend of my son found it quite frightening during her first triathlon. She ending up just treading water until most had passed her.

You're right Gabby, they get pretty fair dinkum even in the lower ranks.
My niece's three children and husband do all of the Tassie events and some of the mainland ones as well. They do very well and her oldest (Jack) has been selected in the State junior team. The two younger ones take it very casually and think it's just great fun!
Devonport Triathlon this coming weekend.. might get a shot or two!
