Old limestone quarry used in making concrete during the war years and up to the 1950s.

Used to dive this one over the winter when the sea was too dirty, but now the quarry is too dirty.

Here's a shot of an old car sitting amongst the silt and mud on the bottom (12 metres down).

This is the quarry prior to it's flooding. (Photo borrowed from historical files).

          Thanks for your thoughts Sandy.
The reason I put them in under snaps is because I had a similar shot in Landscapes and at the same time several others were posting there as well. Posts tend to get 'buried' rather quickly in active topics and I thought it better to put them here given the follow up story I've included with these shots.

I'm a bit surprised that you are the only one to make a comment. Thanks again for taking the trouble.

Thought there might be a bit more interest shown in this.

*Prefer your other image in landscape, works better for me, not sure why?
*I can't believe you actually dive in that!! Apart from the chill factor there all those hazards...
*They did it hard back in the day...guess they didn't know any better really?

What if there were no Hypothetical questions?
CC always welcomed, feel free to post your ideas with an edit if you have time - Thanks.

I put a bit more thought into the composition of the "Melrose Quarry" picture. The point of the first two here was to show the frost on the ground and foliage around the lake in the early morning. I'm not only posting for critique, but also to show things I think might be of interest to others.

Sometimes it appears to work, and other times not.

I like #2 of these - I think the wattle framing the top makes it for me. The old photographs are certainly interesting and knowing what is still down there and accessible. I too can't imagine diving in that, especially entering things like the powder magazine.

It's pretty spooky I must say. The timber work is still present in the magazine and the heavy wooden door ajar far enough to see inside. The first time I looked inside with a torch, a large trout shot out over my shoulder and scared the daylights out of me!
