  • Mary Poppins

Maryborough Queensland is considered to be the birthplace of P.L.Travers, the writer of
Mary Poppins. Born Helen Lyndon Goff in 1899, she spent the first years of her life in Maryborough. Her Father,
a bank manager then transferred to Ipswich, then Allora and ended up in Sydney.

Helen was a dancer and a writer, and moved to England for fame and fortune. She penned the Mary Poppins
novels ( there were 8 of them) as P.L.Travers. It is thought that she used the pseudonym, as did many female
writers of the day, to hide the fact they were females ( go figure)

Anyway, Maryborough erected this bronze of Mary Poppins just outside the place of her birth. Sorry for the uninspired
shots but I only had the 50mm with me.

ain't it the truth Jules...her birth home is covered with signage from a garage company, and numerous other things.
I have a real nice image but the signage just drove me nutz. This was the least cluttered view. Also the reason for
lowering the ambience in post in order to try and hide the worst of it
          cheers
