  • Chest brace welded up for the most part. I won't be cleaning it up until I get the back done and fitted.

Chest piece loosely fitted over the chest brace with the two collar plates.

Barry the torso peice here would make a great bikini fairing for a motor bike you could put it out there for next Mad Max

  • A couple of productive hours after work today. I tack-welded the cod-piece and neck seal together. I have a lot of beating and shaping on some home made dollys to get it all fitting together perfectly, then I'll weld it all up and grind it back neat.

I pre-assembled the main torso parts together to have a look at it all for fit. The old attempt at the abdominal armour in aluminium is going to be scrapped in favour of a more workable and bendable steel one. I'll get on to that this week hopefully.

    • Here's today's work. One shoulder bell with the cardboard trial beside it for comparison.

      • GAHHH!! I must be exhausted. I spent most of the day in the hot sun on a cabless tractor.

I think it effected my concentration....

This afternoon I got all the way through the second shoulder bell only to realise at the end that I have made half of it the same as the opposite shoulder bell.... got to cut, bend, fold and weld another one all over again! What a waste..

There's the bit at the back that should have been made the other way around.....

              Sure is!

I thought I'd pull a bit of a marathon tonight so I stayed in the workshop until 11pm, welding.

Back armour all assembled and welded up.

              • I got a tweet from a TV crew today followed by a phone call and they are coming out tomorrow to do a story on the Iron Man suit for television.

I quickly had to put humpty together again as I've had him apart to model parts for the steel build.

Now the workshop is all cleaned up, I got both shins cut out. Now to flatten, fold and weld.

All the large parts are done on big sheets, but the little stuff can be traced onto the scraps.

                All the parts so far.

so they should too hope th TV thing went well

              • Another day of TV cameras here, job done! Story mainly on the Iron Man suit, but a little on the observatory as well.

It will go to air next Fri at 7:30 on ABC1, then News24 over the weekend. Online from 8pm Friday.

For those of my overseas supporters, I will be receiving a clean copy for me to upload to You tube. You'll have to be a little more patient until I receive it and upload it.

                • This tool is called a brake. It is one of the tools some lovely person on the internet donated and sent me in the mail. It makes folding neat and straight lines so easy!

Tonight's work. Unfortunately I have run out of steel to do any more and I won't have access to a welder for some time so works will pause until that is remedied.

                  • I LOVE DIE-GRINDERS!

Thanks to the guys who sent me the carbide bits and the grinder itself I got the centre of the chest armour shaped very quickly to fit the cover glass and housing for the arc reactor.

Four tabs to be welded on the ends to retain the glass housing.

It goes to air this coming friday and will be available on the web a bit after that. I'll get a cleanskin DVD and upload it to youtube as well.

                        • Crikey I need that gas MIG! Parts are mounting up on the bench and I have no way of joining it all up without one!

Hopefully I'll be back to work next week and get a chance on the welder after hours. Contract ends soon so I may not have the job much longer and I don't know how much time I have access to it.

                          • Tonight I got some of the thigh cut out properly and bent/folded into shape, ready for welding. I had to stop because the neighbors probably wouldn't appreciate me thumping away with the hammers past 9pm....

Good fit for my long legs.
