The cooler tones give her a more ghostly appearance to me. Sorry can't offer advice, hopefully others will be more helpful.

Too pretty to be scarey. Agree that the second has more of a ghostly feel to it.
I think that lighting from below to cast shadows across the eyes makes for a scarey look.
Great exposure control in both though.

Thanks Greg. I was playing with bounding light off the ceiling with a speed light. Not sure how I could play with the angles..give it some thought though. :-)

Yes, cooler seems to help, and some desat.
Added some Gaussian Blur, Smudged two teeth longer and eyebrows up etc. Then some selective zoom. Then added some red to the eyes and lips.
