  • My take on the the sand pipe (apologies to seaslug)

    It was the middle of the day, there were heavy shadows, so I tried to get some symmetry between the top of the structure and the shadows on the ground.
    I managed that but the image seems a bit bland compared to how I perceived it at the time.

    Yes I find it hard to capture the moment too. I like your take on it though.

    Hard to get that balance between the light under the structure and the light on the water. Tends to overexpose the sea a bit and make the shadow more of a distraction.

    However I think structure over restless sea gives a lot of opportunity for photographers, but to get something that really works aint as easy as it seems.

    Maybe with this shot if you cropped in to the foot of the nearest pilons, brightened what you have left and just concentrated on the geometric shapes going off to that light at the end of the tunnel?

      You have a big challenge with trying to get the middle ground with lighting contrast. Think it's don't quite well.
      Like the window created by the angle you took it from. Be interested to see how it would look with a tighter crop.
