  • Riverston high turns 50

Ivan and I planned this trip for months now as Ivan was a student at Riverstone high school 48 49 years ago. They had a Reunion from day dot to now. It was a lot of fun for me as well as for Ivan. I have never done Candid shoots before so thought why not give it a try. So now I want CC to help me learn for other times was not sure what I was doing. As it was a high school reunion I was watching out for people that looked like they were in conversation with somebody that may not have seen for years and also for people that just seemed to appeal to me for what ever reason that may be. I have a few but will carry on in another post to make it easier for you to cc me on

    My gear Nikon D 3100

My lens 18.0-55.0 mm f/3.5-5.6 ( only one ) I took with me

My exif. 55.0 mm (in 35mm: 82.0 mm)

    1/80 sec; f/11; ISO 100

And a question It was very hard to get some of the shoots I wanted to get with out other people been around them or behind. What is the better thing to do crop them out like I have tried here or just leave them in the photo.

      Re: Riverston high turns 50

I looked at the other two. Idon't do technical comments about lighting ect and although viewing on my phone, it seems over exposed.

      I hope you enjoyed yourself.

Sandy, this shot is very overexposed.

Your background is in better focus than the two ladies at front. Take more care where you focus.

To make the background less distracting, try using a bigger aperture. Use around f4, for example. You are using f11, which will give you a fairly large DOF and make the background in focus and therefore distracting.

Using a bigger aperture will also allow you to use a faster shutter. 1/80 is a bit unnecessarily slow. In bright light like this, 1/500 or more would not be unreasonable shutter speed.

My indecision is final, I think.

Thanks very much Charles for your honest and kind CC I will try and keep that in mind next time for sure hope its not too long away. What I also wanted to know was for CC the candid-ines Lo L If there is such a word on these shots as well did I get the right idea. Its my understanding that Candid shots Is to capture the moment that I did try to do but sadly I under exposed this time how ever its a learning curve thanks for that in put Charles
