  • Super Moon 23-6-2013

Not as good as others but OK I guess. Taken with the Canon SX-50 at about 900mm. This is not cropped WYSIWYG.

Thanks Gaz and Kathie. It's the time when the full moon is closest to earth in its orbit so detail is probably a bit better. The next super moon is in November 2016.
Apparently, this one (known as perigee), was 14% bigger and 30% brighter than a normal full moon.

Yes, I got a number of shots of the moon too but not as close as yours. Am I reading that right? You have a 900mm lens?

Thanks for that Kathie. The camera is a Canon SX50HS, a bridge camera with 50X zoom (equal to 1200mm). The best toy I've bought in a long time. If I zoom in to 1200mm I can only get a portion of the moon.

Thanks P Plates. It was the camera that got in nice and close. I did use a cushion to stabilize though.

It's beautiful Isac and thanks for the information on your camera, it's just incredible. Love the clarify of your moon, well done.

Thank you Jenne. I'm glad you like my moon! The camera is unbelievable for around $350. Full manual control as well as shutter and aperture priority etc. Even my canon flash units fit straight onto it (remotes as well). I reckon I've said enough about the camera, but the proof is in the pudding! Thanks again.
