  • Hornet with its captured spider

On the path ahead I saw what I thought was a leaf blowing across the path, then realised there was no wind. It turned out to be this hornet dragging a spider across the path.

The 500mm lens isn't the best for close-ups and this was the best of the series.

A good capture for a non Macro lens, still plenty of detail.

Great shot and just about as close as I would want to get. (We had a particularly nasty strain of Hornet in our area, one of which took exception to me pruning our roses. I looked like I had done 12 rounds with Mike Tyson).

Thank you. We get a few of these around the house but they aren't aggressive. I've been stung a number of times by paper wasps with nests in the yard.

Thanks Phil. Of all the images I took of this, only two were worth keeping. I find it helps to get down low, and the minimum focus difference of 3m actually helps to give a lower angle.

    Nice shot...and creepy too.
