  • What a difference 20-minutes makes

    G'day all

As photographers we are all dependent upon the weather and sunshine / light. This particular day had 10/10 light cloud cover, but within a short time it had moved on and the sky had become 'beautiful'. Here's two images for you

    a) Frangipani flowers with the light cloud cover overhead

    exif- Panny FZ-300; 1/1600 x F4,5; ISO-400; lens at 600mm FFequiv

    b) Frangipani flowers now with blue sky overhead

    exif- Panny FZ-300; 1/2000 x F5,0; ISO-400; lens at 600mm FFequiv

    As always, feedback welcome
    Phil

It's quite often the case Phil, if you don't like the light wait a few minutes and things may improve. I actually prefer the shot with 100% cloud cover, the shadows are much softer. The hot spots on the flowers can easily be fixed if you really wanted to.

I would agree with John. I would also have a Frangi Panny if my labrador visitor hadn't dug up the one I planted to eat the compost under it.
Better a full bottle in front of me
      than a full frontal lobotomy.

I thought you had used the "Sky Replacement" tool for a minute there Phil. Certainly a big difference in a short period of time.

Isac- my old / ancient version of PS Elements does not run to 'sky replacement' nor many other mod-cons ..... and most of those that I have read about are set for 64-bit O/S units. As I am (still happily) using 32-bit W-7 these are not available to me. But for the most part, I am okay with this coz being an "old fashioned photographer" I strive to get it right in-camera anyway

I undersatnd completely Phil - To each his own as they say. I was unaware you were still using the Win-7 32bit system. I didn't mean that you had actually replaced the sky, I meant that it appeared like the sky was replaced because to me, the huge differences between the 2 versions could have also been done by replacing the sky in post. All good, I know you love getting it right in-camera without relying on editing and that's cool as it shows your skills are well above my own. Cheers, Greg.
