  • Mistly Morning at Abbotts Pond

Morning hike at Abbotts Pond. Went out this morning primary to test two new lenses I got, the XF 23mm f/2 (35mm FF equivalent) and XF 35mm f/2 (53mm FF equivalent). The fog and mist was a nice surprise this morning.

It must have been a perfectly still morning to get such good shots. Well done!

It was. The fog was a bit of a nice surprise.

Brilliant photos David. New lenses are providing excellent quality. Nice colours and clarity and good POV on all shots. Shots of the trees are great.
Just a suggestion for #1, remove the heavy branch top left, it cleans it up nicely

I just watched a clip on Cloning/Healing with Capture One and it looks as good a Photoshop.

Probably more a case of the issue being between keyboard and chair.

      I understand completely David

Excellent series David. I think #1 is my favourite here with the trees framing the jetty and the misty water in the background. I agree with Isac's suggestion to remove the branch at top left.

I love the colours of #2 #3 and #4 but I think #1 is the best with the path leading into the image.

I think #5 would be improved by lightening the middle foreground.

Overall a really nice collection. How far did you walk to get these?

Thanks. I had looked at brightening the foreground in #5 but I found I didn't like it as much as it is now.

As far as walking, I think it was a 2.5km round trip.

Very nice series. Love the ethereal feel and composition of number 1. Great colours and textures in 2,3 & 4. I think 5 and 6 would benefit from lightening a touch.

Thanks. I tried brightening up #5 but I wasn't a fan of it compared to where the image is now.

I removed the branch using only the clone tool and painted in some of the smaller twigs with a fine brush. A little dodging on the foreground as well. I always clone using tiny parts for the source so it's hard to detect repeats. I think without the branch it's less of a distraction. With #4 and #5 it just needs a bit of dodging to lift those darker areas without affecting the rest of the image. It's a matter of taste I guess. I'm of the opinion that our eyes can see a much greater dynamic range than what camera sensors can capture and now and then images need a little help to give an image a look that is more like we actually saw. I know others will disagree and we all have differing views - which is always a good thing. Cheers, Greg
