Snowy Hydro finished construction, in 2010, of a small hydro-electric power station attached to the existing river diversion conduit at Jounama Dam. The 14.4 megawatt (MW) small hydro enables renewable energy to be economically recovered from the release of waters to Blowering Reservoir and is GreenPower accredited.
If the equivalent amount of electricity was produced by a coal-fired power station, in the order of 53 500 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent would be emitted into the atmosphere every year. Construction and operation of the small hydro avoids the release of this amount of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere each year. The small hydro on average generates enough energy to power 6800 homes per annum. - Snowy Hydro
