Took a drive to York the other day took the gear with me. Also had a peak at the photos from their Photographic Awards too

Great perspective in #3 and excellent DOF. The watermark across the centre spoils #1 for me. Like the subject with the one empty chair but would probably add a tad more contrast.

A terrific series David. Each shot is very different and demonstrates a very creative eye.

Look, I am known to be a grumpy old douchebag around here, so I will share with you what I see. I'm not saying I'm right. They are just observations, just ideas to maybe try in the form of C&C.

In #1, I notice a bit of a blue color cast. I would try warming it up and adding a bit of contrast. The forground especially looks a bit flat, and working the corrugated metal may bring out a bit more texture. The other thing I would try is to straighten the roof and/or the road edge. Just wondering what it would look like . Oh, the chair is very centrally placed. Not sure if that works, or if it would be better off to one side. To the right perhaps. Hey, a B&W conversion may be really worth trying here!!

#2 is very interesting. The horizon is just a bit higher on the right. (Others here will notice, so I had to say it!) I would try to work the sky a bit. Bring out the cloud detail/contrast a bit more by way of a gradient. It could be a great feature. The bottom of the post is very close to the bottom edge of the image. Sometimes putting things too close to the edge can be a problem. Just an observation.

#3 I love the low angle of view and the DOF. Very dramatic. OK. It's a very centrally placed perspective again. The leading line takes the eye right into the center of the image. If you are going to go for stark symmetry, really go for it! Put the telegraph poles at the same distance in from the edge and put them at the same height on the page. Crop out or clone out the little pole at the left edge. The clouds - a bit more contrast?

As I said, this is just what I saw in your very interesting images. Stuff that I would try if they were mine.
      Charles

My indecision is final, I think.

the water mark is due to placing the wrong pic on here! the angle on the street chair was a bit odd, if i straighten the roof the chair and street are off so i thought it was a 50/50 which way i went. pretty much the same with the rail shot too in regards to angle. I tried cropping but it just didnt seem right on some. but thanks for the CC good ideas and any time i can grab a beer and play on lightroom is a good time

this is a quick edit with lightroom, antique b&w, vignetting, crop to the right as its more interesting on the left side, some tones and recovery thats it.

I like the rework. I think it's a more pleasing, elegant composition. The flow of lines, the mixture of horizontals and verticals, let the eye wonder about the image.

There are so many possibilities. Maybe just a bit more road at the bottom, to let it breathe.

I hope some of the others kick in with their ideas.

Nice rework - as Charles says, lots of possibilities

Here's just one. I added a bit of canvas to the bottom and tried to straighten the verticals. The power lines didn't do much for me, sorry.

Nice find, which would also fit it the 'empty chairs' thread

              Cheers
