Egrets

Egrets and Cormorants are nesting in some trees on two tiny islands near the lake shore giving plenty of chances for birds in flight.

1. Cattle Egret and possible a Plumed Egret in the top of a tree.



2. Approaching a tree. In bird photography circles a plain blue sky is not considered a good background. I'm happy to get a clean background even if it is a plain blue sky.

4. Plumed Egret with chick. Previously classed as a subspecies of the Intermediate Egret (Aardea intermedia), these have been re-clasified as Plumed Egrets (Ardea plumerifa). It will take a while for various bird lists to catch up.

Wow - spectacular shots Alan. Thety're just egrets to me, too many changes to names nowadays is a bit confusing fo my old brain. But in saying that, I don't see many varieties to be able to compare them all.

Thanks Isac. We get four species here and they can be difficult to tell apart. There is also the Reef Heron along the coast. I just fall back to Egret when I’m not sure. Photographing them flying around the nest trees can be fun.

You're lucky to see them in flight Alan. I rarely see one in our area let alone in flight.

Thanks Hans. Fairly common around here, but they nest in colonies so you see many at nesting sites.

A plain blue sky is just fine for me. It does not take anything away from the birdie..
