  • A duck out of water

I saw this Pacific Black Duck at the side of a gravel road in dry eucalypt forest, a long way from the nearest water. It looks healthy enough but I wonder if it was able to fly. I didn't approach it to find out.

I really like the separation from the background. Nice shot Alan.

Great image of a seemingly lost duck Alan. The wings look OK. I see the PBs a good distance from the lake so I wouldn't be too concerned for its welfare.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Thanks Isac, I was more puzzled that it didn't fly off as I was fairly close when I walked past.

Sometimes they aren't too bothered with humans being close as long as they don't feel threatened. I can usually get close to them at my lake, even when Charlie's with me, which to be honest, he couldn't give a toss about any of the ducks he comes across.
