Thanks guys. Those beaks look pretty tough. I've seen the adults tackle some decent sized twigs when they build their nests. They also take over other species nests and then add to them with there own building products that they gather from nearby areas of the lake. Lately they seem to be getting used to human traffic, they don't trake off when I walk past only 2 metres from them.
