  • yellowtailed black cockatoo female feeding

we often see these on here of flying by. the mournful cry is unmistakable. we heard the cry and a munch munch sound so it sounded like they may have been feeding and low so homed in on the noises and there they were. luckily down a small gully so that you could get at eye level. due to thick is cover they werent overly concerned by my presence either.
got quite a few pix of the feeding behaviour. not out in the open at any stage but I figured that if you could see what they were doing, it was fair game.
d5 600f4 f5.6 iso 3200 1/100-1/320. light wasnt particularly good as sun had all but gone behind the hill somewhere past them.
all full frame but cropped to landscape. there are eating banksias. putting the male pix in another thread so it not so image heavy a post

nope, no red tails down this way. we got glossy blacks that people think are red tails. they do have red tails though. we got sulplur crested, galahs, short and long billed corellas, glossy blacks, yellow tail, gang gang, so we cant complain too much. lots of casuarina trees on here and they quite popular with lots of the cockatoos. particulary the glossies. the banksias and stuff popular with the others

Same comments as for the male and good to get shots of the tail as well.

I hear you about the busy, but these things feed in the middle of these trees. the glossies are way worse around here too and more skittish

Considering what you've said about the light these have turned out really well. I didn't realise how many varieties of Cockatoo you have down there.

We are fortunate with our variety of birds. Even seven types of cockatoo on this place. Beats the city
