Very nice John. Good pose, sharp and well-controlled exposure on the whites. The out of focus branch in the foreground detracts a bit, but that's where the bird chose to perch. I like the placement in the frame but would be inclined to give the bird a bit more space as it looks a little cramped to me.

I used to crop my images quite tightly too, but was eventually converted to give them a bit of room, however this is really a personal preference.

I have to agree, a bit tight in the frame but still OK. The exposure and detail on the white is good (which is never that easy to control). I hope my edit is OK. I did a little dodge and burn and sharpening to lift the details and adding a bit of space closer to the Rule-of-Thirds to me is a better look. You've done well and I do like a good "Sulfie" shot.

        nice image for a newbie.
light on the cocky is good, and they can be a tough gig sometimes
background distractions let it down a bit.
