  • Nankeen Kestrel

These were taken on different days and are different birds.
Though I do think the 2 are mated they just are not together all the time.
The 1st one is on the school ovals close to home and its sort of use to me.
I will get out the car and take 10 steps take a few shot and keep doing this until I'm close.
Though it doesn't always work. I think the 1st one is the female as it has a lot of the brown stripes on it chest.

The 2nd one is take at the oval which to them is a 30 second fly, for use a 5 minute drive.
I employ the same method to get closer to this one and it works but this one will fly off much quicker.
My personal opinion of these is that they are a very good looking bird.

Very nice photos Arthur. Lovely detail and the colours are very striking. The male is #2. It has a grey crown.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Great shots. Yes the second is the male.
      Suggestion about approaching birds.
NEVER walk directly to the bird or look directly at the bird. Try to approach at an angle as if you are going to walk past. Wear a broad brimmed hat (not a cap) and hold the camera up to your face so that you can look over the top of the camera ready to shoot.

Nicely done Arthur. I think #1 is the stronger image because of the better lighting and detail on the claws.

Thank you to you all for giving out that information. I have looked to see if I could work that part out but I must have looked in all the wrong places.
I appreciate all that has been said.
Its now time to go through all my shots I have of them and put them in their right places.

Both lovely shots Arthur, I do agree with the others, #1 slightly edges out #2.
            Cheers, Brad.
