Lone Kingfisher

Forest Kingfisher, I chased it about trying to get closer. This was as close as I could get, maybe 25 meters. My attempts to get a more side-on view to get more colour in the shot were in vain.

These are both cropped a bit. And first time I have used a watermark, I might have to alter it a bit, I tried to make it so it would be unobtrusive, gets a bit lost there.

Good on you for your persistence Brad, these little suckers are very elusive. I spent an hour chasing one, he's go for about 100 metres, wait, then take off as soon as I got close enough to bring up the camera, I swear blind he knew exactly what he was doing hahahaha. Nice catch mate!

Thanks Lloyd and Greg. These little fellas are a welcome sight whenever I see them, but yes they are elusive.

I was leaning up against a tree to help hold the camera steady, and I was waving one leg in the air and stomping my foot, hoping for a different pose, or to catch it taking flight, but the damn thing just sat there. As soon as I took my eye away from the viewfinder to see if I could move to another tree, it took off and I never saw it again .

nice pic of the forest kingfisher. bummer we dont get them down here. minimalist crop with the plenty of room on the left works well too

Thanks Stephen. I am lucky to have these little fellas hanging around my property, I can go for a walk most days and see them, but they are elusive.
