  • Blur - not the band

Four images portraying blur. One motion blur, 2 zoom blur and one sculpture photographed through the water wall at the NGV. Very little PP, a lot of crop for the last image.

    Images 1 & 4 shot with a Canon 100D and 18-55 kit lens
    Images 2 & 3 shot with a Canon 7D and Sigma 17-70 zoom.

It's number 2 for me. Good examples of different ways of producing blur. I bet I took more shots than you when I tried the zoom blur - lost count!

    Cheers, Gary

Thanks for the kind words Isac. Blur was the subject of a facebook group I used to belong to, I have some more images to post later.

Good stuff Brad, really like #2 it has that time warp feel to it.

Cheers John. Time warp, they could probably make a song about that

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with Isac, it makes a fun project, you can get all different effects with the timing of your zoom, eg try and get a long shutter speed like about 6 seconds, click the shutter, wait 3 seconds then zoom for the remaining 3 seconds, vary your delay and zoom times for different effects. My first two pics are zoom blur, the 3rd is a slow shutter and a fast insect, the last was my feeble attempt at rear curtain flash sync.
      Cheers, Brad.

You've done well with your shots Ironwood. I just took the dog for a walk and got soaked by a sudden downpour so I'm not taking the camera out for a while. I do some of this with Photoshop which is pretty cool. I'll post one here for you.

All good but easier to do in Photoshop.

Here's another image from my Blur catalogue.
It was done by securing the zoom ring of the lens to the tripod and rotating the camera body to obtain a spiral/zoom effect.

Thanks Brad, it would have made a great tie dye t-shirt in the 60's.

Awesome work John. It's great that we have a creative licence with DSLR cameras and it's amazing what people come up with when they experiment.
These 2 are done very quickly in Photoshop but I'll see if I can come up with something out of camera.

Pretty close in the big scheme of things John. Just an email away. Do you use Photoshop currently?

Yes, I use CS6. I'm a very basic user though, I would love to get more deeply in to the program and create creating some really "out there" images.

I'm a CS6 user too John so if you want any tips, just ask. I had CC 2108 for a while but it didn't offer up much new stuff for me so I've gone back to CS6. I use the $79 Affinity too but still in the early stages - it was a lot cheaper than CC 2108 which is about $180 per annum!

Perth City at night with a bit of B&W treatment. 17-50 lens using BULB mode while I zoomed in on the image displayed on the monitor. Too wet to go outdoors!

Very nice Isac. Light trails and zoom blur well done. I'm guessing by the starburst effect you were shooting around f 16 - f22.
