  • First ever wedding - so, so difficult...............

I did my first ever wedding today. A very relaxed garden wedding in the country and the brief was simply "I'd like a few nice pics, nothing over the top".

Sounds easy, except the cloud cover vanished, the sun was low and intense and the setting had massive shadows everywhere with all the good angles occupied by trees, shrubs and guests.

I don't envy Pro Wedding Photographers one bit.

Still, I managed to get some good shots in and have a day or so of processing to do.

This wedding had a lot of family involvement as you can see in these pics.

Wow that's tuff! Love the group shot with the kids, their outfits are gorgeous. The last one is fun! terrific saturation of colour too, shame about the shadows on the groom but it looks like difficult conditions, sun is the enemy! Good on you for having a go, I think theyre lovely!

Yes, I like the middle one too. I did a friend's wedding last year. They weren't going to get any photos taken original and I told them they had to have some and they were happy for me to do it. I'm not much of a people photographer as I much prefer nature so doing their wedding gave me confirmation that's not my calling at all. But for all that, I still got some nice shots and produced a photobook for them as our wedding gift to them. Would be interested to see more once you're done with the p&p.

For someone who stated that they would not do weddings.....they are pretty good, and like twisty and Kath, I like number 2, as the kids really add to the impact of the image. Still. I would say you had fun, Andrew....do some more...helps pay the bills.

tip for the last photo before I fall asleep: may have been better if they had the sun behind them and you used fill flash (heavy BTW) and or reflectors. In the "old days" it was considered not correct to have shadows across the eyes. But still a nice set of photos over all. You may need to look at adding a little yellow as the dress has a blue tint on my screens.

My favourite photo is the 3rd (The swing). Yes, the shadow across the face does a little damage, but the photo looks 'real'. It is my favourite, but I also enjoyed the second photo.

What a bugga about the sunshine and shadows Andrew but your photos I'm sure they will love, they are so natural and even candid, the swing one is very appealing, the girls' clothing is just perfect. You can see the 'love' in these. I like your B&W processing with the vignettes, love the colour of the dark one with the group saying their vows and the other with the creamy old-fashioned tonings is great.

Thanks all, a couple of the more formal 'after service' shots with family members.

Good job Andrew .. I like what you've done and what great memories to have for the b&g. Like the b&w's .. the second one is my fave.

After all I read on forums about weddings, I'm already scared off from doing them .. not that I'm anywhere near as talented as you lol.
