Surf's Up

I went down to Philip Island today with the objective of taking some long exposure shots. Unfortunately when I went to set up for the first shot I realised that I had left my shoe plate at home and I was unable to attach my camera to my tripod. On to plan B, well I had no plan B so I toured the island aimlessly looking for things to capture.

#1. This is a very heavy crop as I only had my 24-240 lens with me, still happy with the outcome. I am keen to go back with the Siggy 150-600 and 7D and try my luck again.

#2. Is it worth going in? Would this image be better as a monochrome, feedback welcome.

#1: Great action shot John. Perfect timing to capture the surfer at the peak ready for the ride down. 1/400th not that fast, so well done to freeze the action.

Yeah, I think that this one was more A than C. I'm eager to get back Here with the 7D and Siggy 150-600. I'll also try the Siggy on the R6 and see how the eye detect goes.

20mp ff sensor has plenty of detail for excellent cropping. The OOC image gives a better sense of scale IMHO, but I like the pano too.

With this type of shot a triptych would work great. If just cropping, I would flip it horizontally leading left to right, then crop using ROT, leaving plenty of water to retain a good sense of scale. Just my thoughts

I had a play with Isac's Sunset action today, very happy with the result.

Good to see the action works! I know folks are using them but rarely get feedback. did you know you can expand the scale of the effect and also drag the centre of the gradient to wherever you want it?

I didn't change anything, just let the action run, turned out a treat. Luckily the sun was at about the same position when I took the photo, so no need to adjust for shadows.,

Never any decent surf on my side of the UK, so they have to make use of kites to get going. At least that means sometimes they come in fairly close:

Better than nothing I guess, if there's no surf. Surf parks are starting to pop up for those who can't get to good surfing beaches.
On another note and it's just me having a rant, but I'm not a fan of those wind turbines. Apparently they killed 500,000 birds lately and in a year that will rise to 1.4 million. I guess everything man does takes a toll somehow.
