  • Done any WildHorse Cutting lately?

    G'day all

Stopped last weekend in Rolleston Qld where they held the annual WildHorse Cutting competition

This comp is for highly skilled horses and riders - where the rider takes the horse into a mob of cattle, and after letting go the reins, the horse then cuts a beast from the mob and prevents its return for 20-30 seconds. Riders have 2-1/2 minutes to do this twice to qualify, 3 times for extra points

There were 1/2-dozen categories, each with $10,000 as the major prize

    Here's a few images
EXIF = all on Panny G2 using 45-200mm lens; "S" mode at 1/1000s; iso & Aperture variable with lighting conditions

Great action shots - really like the isolation of the boot in the last.

Great shots Phil, really like the loose aspect of a horse cutting out a beast.

        Wow, what an event.
Your first three images capture the huge amount of physical force that the horses must endure.

I think my focus would have been squarely on taking shots of those cowboys

Haven't been there, not done that.
