    Last night at the camera club we had a guest presenter who did a session on lighting. It was really cool. He set everything up and explained what he was doing and took images to show what he was talking about. Was so much better than watching a powerpoint and having to try and imagine the set-up he was talking about. I have all the gear he was using (well the cheap ebay versions anyway, no pocket wizards here )
    Done with 3 speed lights and a piece of white Styrofoam as a reflector. One light with brolly on camera right (45 degrees to subject [me] and slightly higher than head height), reflector camera left. Hair light 45 degrees camera left and a gelled light to colour the curtains.
    I set it all up and did some test shots and then handed the camera to the missus. Dangerous i know but it survived and she managed some super sharp images. Lens was a Canon 50mm 1.4 at f5, 1/160 iso 100.

    This was just before we packed up, i gave her a monopod to use as the tripod was too limiting and the camera was too heavy for her to hold free hand. She handed the monopod back to me and then told me to hold it over my shoulder as such;

    I'm not so sure on the colour of the background here but she chose it and anyway, it goes with my eyes. Doesn't it

    No one likes these or did they just slip under the radar.
    Even though they aren't in the pick it to pieces section, feel free to do so.

      These did slip under my radar...

      I prefer the lighting and the pose in #2 (background colour aside). Both are lovely and sharp.

      Nothing like hands on workshop to inspire ones photography passion
      Cheers Richard !

          Re: Me

          I don't have any technical feedback but the first looks like you have bagpipes hidden ...cos that monopod looks like the stick thing on bagpipes. Also that second one you have a glazed look but could be an illusion cos of the angle. Nice too see you though. Wife does do good shot or two by the looks of it

            I don't think i'd use the coloured background very often but it was cool to give it a go.
            After looking at the first one a bit more i'm not really as much of a fan as when i first looked at it. Anna, it was a bit, think it was a 'hurry up would you' look

              Well it would have been great to have the hands on experience at your camera club and good on you for being able to copy it at home, another string to your bow and your missus took some great pics, I can see you are going to be able to do lots more experimenting. I think the lighting is great and I had to smile at the lovely bright backgrounds. Looking forward to lots more from you now.

                  I'm trying to get in front of the camera more. It's a bit unfair hiding behind it but expecting everyone else to pose for me
