  • Wood Hen

    Rare endemic species to LHI almost lost completely in the 1970s with numbers down to the 30s. A protection and breeding program has them back to around 300 on the small island and they are quite easy to approach.

      What a decent looking bird .. Body like the Moor Hen but not the beak .. wonder what their babies look like. Probs totally cute like Swamp Hens and Moor Hens.

        It is a shame that our friendliest species are the ones to go. Pays to be frightened in the bird world.
