    I was thinking he looked a healthy specimen ... but it looks like something has had a bite out of his wing tip.

      Frayed wings are pretty common in bumble bees. Recon they just wear down as they move through the foliage. They rev. at a very high rate!

        Nice capture Greg. I don't ever recall seeing them. Just the common variety around here. It looks huge on that flower.

          I have never seen them around here either .... first time I ever recall seeing one was at Port Arthur .... fat buggers.

          I believe they were introduced to Tassie thinking they would address the problem we have with European Wasp. Just limited success from what I can tell. There's fewer wasps but plenty of Bumbles.. not sure of how they've affected the worker bees or native bees, Haven't heard anything yet.

          They look cute though!
