  • Got myself a new toy

Just a quick test flight with the new toy. Obviously more of a video rig but I was fairly impressed by the photo quality too. Sure beats the humble gopro stills.

So what model? How easy to fly and take photos with? How big are the files?

I'd like one, but I live too close to an airport I think.

Have fun - looking forward to seeing some more pics

It's a DJI Phantom Standard Alan. They have dropped in price massively in the last 6 months or so.
it's a 12MP photo and the file is around 5Mb. That photo is an untouched jpg but it will do RAW as well.
I've flown other quadcopters and hexacopters and this is far more stable and easier to fly.

Here's a quick video from yesteday afternoon out the back of work. Looks best if you turn the resolution up to max.

Had a little crash on the weekend and had to replace some parts. Did that last night and had a successful test flight today.

Well, you've gone and done it now! It should be a criminal offence if you don't get out into some desert country and get that sucker up in the air.

I'm thinking the Simpson would be a good practice run.

I shall wait here till you return though I warn you I'm not a patient man.

I agree 100% Mick. I leave tomorrow. Seriously. Not The Simmo but rather north - Kakadu and Gulf Country.

Ok, you're forgiven. Kakadu and the Gulf will do for now.

I'm not even slightly jealous btw...nope, not me.

( have a good time mate)

I've never been up that way before. Pretty keen to do some exploring.
                      Thanks Mick.

Wonderful Imagery - bought back some memories of my last trip up to the Corner

I had to turn the sound off though, sorry - it seemed to work against the scenery somewhat for me - maybe something more sparse and pertaining to the land, eg some 'Gondwanaland'?

Looks like a great trip and welcome back.

Haha thanks guys. Can't please everyone with soundtracks. My mate always edits his 4wd videos with some sort of dance /trance. Does my head in
