I some how remember Stephen saying that Egrets changed their plumage during the mating season, from memory this bird resembles an Egret during the mating season. It may have have had a night on the tiles. Great photo I like the back lighting effect on the birds plumage. Well shot. Unfortunately all the local wet lands have dried out, there's not much at all at present. Where I used to see Kingfishers its just a dust ball.

Thanks for the comments Gordon. The fluffed up feathers came as a response to a flap and a shake the bird did and a set of reflex shots I made at the time. Don't know about mating plumage but this is how the bird looked before the shake.

              According to Wikipedia..

"The great egret can be distinguished from other white egrets by its yellow bill and black legs and feet, though the bill may become darker and the lower legs lighter in the breeding season. In breeding plumage, delicate ornamental feathers are borne on the back. "

I quite like the back light too

Thanks for looking that up Alan. There were a couple of birds together so they may have had breeding on their mind. I'll see if I can sort out a shot of them.
