Lucky to get this little fellow right in close amongst the fallen trees in the Don river feeding yesterday.

I had to remind myself that I have only seen a playtypus in a zoo and would most likely never see one in the wild ... what a precious time for you and a huge thrill I bet.

Thanks all for the comments. I consider myself very lucky in this respect. There are three places quite close by where I regularly see platypus close up. At the Arboretum where I do voluntary work one day a week, there are 8 in the waterholes on the properties and there always seems to be one or two out and about.

In the Don river (where these shot are taken) there appears to be a family which works about a 500metre stretch alongside of the walking track I use regularly. See one about every second time I use the track for walking or riding.

At Latrobe there is a reserve (Warrawee) specific for the viewing of platypus. Natural waterholes beside the Mersey river give great opportunities to just sit in shelters along the banks and just relax. You would be pretty unlucky to miss seeing one.
