  • From the archive - inspired by Phil

Seeing some of Phil's early digital images, prompted me to check out some of my earlier images. I have been reviewing the library and removing some images that should have been removed long ago.

These are scans of film images - mostly from slides - all from the late 1960s - when I was starting with photography. A mixed bag of fairly ordinary photos but interesting to me at least.

    1. Soapbox Derby, Yeppoon. About 1968. This was held down one of the longer steeper hills in the town.

    3. My grandfather and an uncle. I was told that he was an excellent club cricketer in his younger days. Note the quality bat - not quite A grade standard.
This is on the market garden property where my father grew up.

    4. Limestone Creek, near Yeppoon. This was a favourite swimming spot.

    G'day mate

Ah - many memories here and "ain't it beaut to revisit those memories"
Each of the four appeals to me in various ways - the simple life - the colours - the beauty etc.

    A 'well done' from me

Thanks Phil. Yes, it's good to look back at old photos from time to time.

That's what photos are for - to look back on!! Great memories for you here Alan.
The first one really shows the speed going down that hill - wonderful shot.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Thanks Isac. I have not been able to get decent panning motion shots on a digital SLR; The subject tends to be too blurred as well as the background. I haven't worked out whether it's something about the camera or just that I have grown older. I keep trying from time to time.

Hi Alan, try these settings when panning: Shutter Priority, AF-C focus mode, High Speed Continuous shooting, Auto ISO (or 100-400). Start with 1/60th shutter speed and adjust from there. For the go-carts, I think that would be OK, even slower if needed. I've lost all my cycling photos but I can just about confirm that's what the settings were. I hope this help AND practice, practice, practice!
