  • Project 52

OK, now we have a projects forum I think I will try a project 52. A 365 can be too onerous, even the 52 can be a pain but now I have the S100 I really have no excuse for not taking at least one photo a week haha.

Here is my first week, silent sentinels in the cold morning light, taken with the S100

Hi Lloyd, I did a 52 challenge on another forum last year and even though the challenge was quite time consuming I learnt a lot and enjoyed doing it (most of the time) which I am sure you will too. Great first photo to start with, you have captured a beautiful time of the morning

Thanks Tania. Yes, I am hoping it gets me going to look for more interesting things to shoot and to learn more about processing. I have thought about it before but did not want to do it anywhere else. Now we all have no excuse do we?

When I first read about this section my brain started thinking of ideas and I keep trying to tell it to shut up because I'm not sure if am ready to start another one just yet, but it just won't keep quiet

          Good Luck Lloyd.

I also tried a P52 some years ago over the road.

However, it involved taking the same scene every week for a year. Trying to make it different and interesting each week really stretched me.

Alan, I remember that challenge very well as I followed it. It was a brave thing to do shooting the exact shot every week for a year. I am just going to try and get as much different stuff as I can so I start to think a bit more about what I am going to shoot. Thanks for the encouragement.

That's an interesting image Lloyd, nice assortment of sentinels captured in lovely early morning light. You always produce images with good composition.

Lovely light and early morning colours in this photo - wish I could convince myself to get out of bed that early. Might even join you in the 52 - with an aim to improving my composition. Will see what shots I get this weekend - hopefully something reasonable.

Good on you P plates. I'd like to see a few of us get into it. Then maybe we can look at a 365 next year if the 52 is successful. Yes, it was cold, in fact it was bloody freezing down there on the bay at 7:00am. It never ceases to amaze me that Melbourne is not that far west of Brisbane, yet the sun rises quite a bit later, but it doesn't seem to set any later

Good luck with it mate, don't reckon i could manage a 365 but 52 would probably be do-able. Having the S100 to chuck in the pocket would make it easier

I had already been there for 2 hours by the time you took that photo (i work at the dockyards where the cranes are). The flight deck of the new LHD ship will be about the same height as the pivot points of those cranes, massive ship. No more mountains in the background until it is handed over to the Navy. lol

Well Tatts, I am glad I wasn't the only sucker freezing my cods off Next time I come down we will have to get together for a coffee. I stayed in the Quest just near the pier, but it is not really a nice place, it advertises 4 stars and the photo's on the website looked great, let me tell you I think they slipped 3 stars in while the guests weren't looking and their photos are from 10 years ago! I have my own photos that do not look as nice as theirs and show what it is really like I'll put it this way, if I had not prepaid on the company credit card before I left Brisbane I would have simply walked out and found somewhere else to stay, seriously!

Thanks Jenne, the day before the light was even better but I was driving in the traffic and missed it. It was a wow moment, but I couldn't stop I left later the next day to catch it, but it was nowhere near the same display of rich bright colour, it was glowing red. Never mind, next time I may take the DSLR as well and stay for every dawn before heading in to work.

Thanks Sandy, go on, join in and do a 52. There is heaps of stuff you could shoot out your way, you know you want to!

now that I don't have to commute 400km a week I will do another 365. I did one 2 years ago and it really improved
my skill setand I enjoyed it immensely. Amazing what one sees when you have that "deadline" hanging over your head
to get that shot of the day
great first image Lloyd, and I look forward to your further contributions
                              cheers
