Sounds a lot like children photography and wedding photography for that matter

I'd say it's your monitor Ian - you can clearly see what they are sitting on and I've gone with the black background in this case a) because I like the seperation and isolation it offers the pet, my attention is immediately drawn to the dog and not the background (unless of course it's a black dog) and b) I think black or white backgrounds are timeless, when I first got started with studio lights I bought the calico painted/dyed background and pretty much hated it - I used it for a test shoot and never again - I thought it looked dated and didn't suit me or my style, but each to their own.

cheers Darren, there was a bit of forum discussion recently about how we were viewing blacks. I did adjust my screen at the time but I obviously still don't have it right

I understand what you are saying black/white V painted back-drops. I tried to use Black and white many years ago but no one liked it lol.

Plain [natural] calico can be handy to have on hand. It's cheap and available 2.4 mts wide.

the plain stuff is definately on my buy list Ian - I can see situations where having the option is beneficial
