To emphasise the dynamics of the exposure & overcome possible metering over-exposure via the highly contrasty conditions
Centre-weighted metering was taken from the orange area at the lower center of the image

I'll have to try that to see what difference it makes. I tend to spot meter and just move slightly across the contrasting area until I like how it looks. (Live view)
