  • One Man Camp

Sneaky overnight trip saturday night. One of my favourite sunsets spots up the western edge of the Blue Mountains.

        Wow.

Good idea not to camp too close to the edge. What a fantastic spot

Another lovely spot Todd. You sure can find them. It reminds me of Kanangra Walls a bit.

              Thanks All.
Yes Lloyd, quite similar to Kanangra. Can't camp this close to the edge at Kanangra though sadly. While this is a cracking sunset spot, Kanangra would be an awesome sunrise spot.

I know but how spectacular is it out there. I'd love to see a sunrise or sunset there, the walls would just glow.

Wonderful photos Todd. Colours are fantastic. #1 for me. Nice tones to show the time of day.

Personal choice of course but I prefer the original with a few tweaks.

To my eye the foreground is interesting and just needed to be lifted a bit to make it slightly more prominent.

I'll post both the original and the tweaked version next to each other to make it easier to compare. Just food for thought...

Thanks Mick. Did you just lift exposure and shadows?

Thought I might have a little play too.

Have pruned the tree a little, painted out the hot spot of the sun and lifted the light levels on the drinker.

Thanks Greg. Like what you've done with the light.
Not so much the tree. I liked that it lead out of the frame. I do see the idea of framing the whole thing though so appreciate the effort.

Do the rocks in the foreground look a little blue? Or is it just the screen I'm looking at now?

Don't know I didn't alter any of the general settings, colour balance or levels. If there's a difference it's as a consequence of the download and upload of the small file. I do get that sometimes.

I did a little bit more than that Todd but it took only about a minute all up.

Used a graduated neutral density filter on the sky because the sun is a bit hot and when I lifted the exposure it became quite ugly and washed out.

Corrected colour cast because it needed to be warmer, more room to move there.

Used the dodge tool in photoshop to selectively brighten the swag, the tall and handsome gentleman, the firewood and the tree trunk on left. On your version can see some purple fringing on the top half of the tree on left and by using the dodge tool I was able to avoid that. Still a bit there but can be fixed easily.

Rough and rugged clone to remove the canvas on right edge, could be a lot neater.

Lightening that trunk made a big difference I reckon but that's just personal taste. Needed something on the LHS to catch the eye and provide some balance.
