Poor wombat is suffering a bit from the mange. It's been a big issue in Tassie too.

Oh yeah very very common up here. Rarely see one without it. He seemed healthy enough otherwise. Had a good growl and bark at me for getting too close.

Just had a trip on my motorbike from Brissy to Philip Island and back, I saw lots of dead ones on the road. Made me sad every time.

Now a wombat that close is not something you see every day! Normally they scarper pretty darn quick.

Sad to see the wombats plight, I read that a lousy 100k was put up by the Tassie government to help the situation. For every dollar Tassie raises in GST they get back $1.76! (of course WA is the major donor) Maybe they could use some of those donation to boost that up. PS nice pics Todd.

Two nice shots there Todd. If possible it's a good idea to get down to eye level with most critters, it makes a hell of a difference. Having a long lens makes this easier of course.

Thanks Mick. I was trying to approach slowly and get down to Wally but once I reached this point he started barking a growling at me.
