Loving the ducks Todd. All males! (Australian Wood Ducks) not a lady to be seen. As some my know I live near a small lake and these ducks are really friendly. It does worry me a bit when they're fed bread, which is not the best food for them. It's an unnatural carb rich food that they shouldn't have at all and we never know how much of it is given to them by us humans. I feed our local ducks with just peas and corn and they are very happy with that. Here's a bit of info you and other members can have a look at if interested. FEEDING DUCKS Sorry to be a bit pedantic but so many ducks have suffered from feeding them bread.

Agree ISAC. But I would say most of that advice is based on old white bread. The bread I gave these guys was a country grain mix that includes mixed kibbled grains including purple wheat, red sorghum, rye, wheat, triticale, corn, barley and kibbled soy.

Thanks for the response Todd. I tend not to give bread of any kind at all to our local ducks.
Bread is bread and is not great for a duck’s health as it’s nothing like their natural diet and it fills them up quickly so they don't forrage for the food they are supposed to eat.
By all means feed them the grains etc you listed but without the bread. The bread content is still 75-90% even with the grains and other goodies.

Ducks get a horrible condition called "Angel Wing" and it's caused by feeding on breads that have high protein and carbohydrate levels
A high protein diet will cause the wing bones to grow too fast and makes the wing too heavy for the joint. The faster growth also twists the joint. This causes a deformity in the joint.
Uneaten bread causes algal blooms, allows bacteria to breed and attracts rats and other vermin.
IMHO it's probably better to avoid the bread all together and if you want to feed them, there are better and healthier options.

SAFE FOR DUCKS
Cracked corn
Wheat, barley or similar grains
Oats
Rice (cooked or uncooked)
Birdseed (any type or mix)
Grapes (cut in half)
Frozen peas or corn (defrosted, no need to cook)
Earthworms
Mealworm
Chopped lettuce or other greens or salad mixes
Chopped vegetable trimmings or peels
Duck pellets

NOT SAFE FOR DUCKS
Bread
Chips
Crackers and biscuits
Popcorn
Sugary food - sweets, chocolate

Odds and evens. Choose odd numbers if you can, three looks better than four.

#1 would be much stronger if the top bird was all there, also diagonals are powerful composition tools and this image would have been a cracker if the third bird was all there and you had got down to ground level to shoot. Yes, I'm a picky so and so and I know you're not into bird photography but I comment without mercy

Those Wood Ducks are handsome birds, we see them occasionally here. Good advice from Mick, l agree about getting down to their level, it's gives a more pleasing POV, works well with dogs too.
