  • Polly wanna cracker?

    G'day all

Visited a bird aviary yesterday and under miserable lighting conditions [deep cloud, light rain outdoors] "I tried me best"

    1- The wonderful King Parrot

    Panny G2 w- 14-140 @ 140; 1/40s x F5,6; ISO-800

2- Cocky wanna scratch under the chin ... if your'e game!

    Panny G2 w- 14-140 @ 65; 1/80s x F5,3; ISO-800

    3- White pigeon sitting quietly

    Panny G2 w- 14-140 @ 140; 1/500s x F6,3; ISO800

The vast majority of my images [90%] were junked as they were unsharp ... I didn't have my trusty monopod with me - Bugga. Most were shot at max zoom and as light was poor, also max aperture, leading to overall softness. Maybe sharp enough for viewing on a smartfone, but on the computer screen they just didn't have the 'magic'

    As always, comments welcome
    Phil

Still look ok on my screen Phil, but I must deduct points for taking the shots in an aviary.

Yeah Greg ... tend to agree, but I didn't have me 5000mm didgeredoo with me, along with heaps of perfect sunshine, so had to suffer second best

Look fine at this size. Suppose it depends what you want to do with them. Good for a postcard.

          G'day Hans
Just as an aside, almost every image I upload to the internet is reduced to 800px on the long side [exceptions are panos to 1000px or sometimes 1200px]

My tongue-in-cheek 'joke' to Greg was that to get this sharp / close to / etc. a real subject in the wild would need a bluddy-great-long lens that my hip pocket couldn't handle

fwiw ... back in my working days in Canberra, we [camera club] had a visit from the AFP photog people, who brought along a 2000mm Nikon lens to show us. It was an MTO / catadioptric [mirror] lens, the size of the average circular rubbish bin one sees under so many office desks. They had images taken across Canberra's Lake Burley Griffin to a hotel about 1km away, [showing people at a clandestine meeting] and the image sharpness / clarity was such that we regulars cried into our beers afterwards
