Plenty to like about this Ross. The colours are amazing! As you've placed this in PITP, I'd like to give a bit of CC. Firstly, I think the Rule of Thirds could have been put to good use here by having the horizon on or near the top third line. Secondly, a few paces back would have helped get the whole pool in the frame and added those rocks, with great textures, to your image - like the one below.

I understand what Isac is trying to get across in terms of improved composition but I disagree with cropping out part of that beautiful sky. My impression would be to go the other way and lose most of the foreground to put the focus firmly on the sunrise itself.

I've added a bit of sharpness and contrast, and just given it a very simple black line surround to lift the colour even more.

          Isac, Greg

Thanks for your critique. Much appreciated and noted.

Understand about rule of thirds but could not get both pool and sky in as I wanted.

I think and correct me if Im wrong is that this sort of photography requires Technical skill (camera setup) and artistic skills (subject, composition and framing) and my problem is I dont have an artistic bone in my body. I go out with my son his photos are WOW and mine go into the bin and not because of the quality.

Yesterday I did not move around much because "Old Fart + Dark + Rocks = Fall"

Maybe I should just stick to taking photos where the Technical part out ways the artistic part.

          Thanks again.
          Cheers
          Ross

Agree with both comments. As for being able to get in both the sky and pool, you could try getting down low. Laying down even. I know you mentioned it was dark and risk of fall but something to consider next time. Try different aspects without even walking around.

Often less is more. Spend a little time looking around the scene before pressing the shutter. Half the fun is finding something that works best.

Instead of trying to get everything in, concentrate on trying to get a good balance in composition of what attracted you in the first place.

Todd & Greg Thanks for your input? Think it's time to stop taking snapshots and to start taking photographs

Stunning colours and agree, sometimes less is more.
