Mt Fuji

Sun completely overwelmed this picture of Mt Fuji. Shame as I was dead keen to see the result It was bracketed 1.5 stops as well.

A shot with potential. By that, I feel it needs a bit more work perhaps, especially the foreground. Did you shoot RAW?

As it stands, the foreground is rather flat and lacking in detail. Crop perhaps? Or more PP.

The top half of the image is great. Those clouds, the slope of the mountains are very dramatic.

That does make the picture a lot more dramatic. I have not done anything in HDR and generally think it makes things look artificial I can see the artistry trying to get out here though. There was just way too much contrast in this though.

Your right Bill, I f I could have just extracted the detail on only the mountain and left the clouds as subtle it would have been heaps better. If it alright with Hans I'll continue with a copy I still have on my harrd drive. if not I'll delete it I'm sure he will let me know.

Hans I hope dont mind I to have played with your shot . I will delete as soon Ive finished

First I cropped the bottom to get rid of the poles

I then selected the forground and tried to added some detail and colour ( may have over did it)

The sky is the biggest problem, couldent do much there, save putting in a new sky, But even I dont usally go that far

Finally made what I think is mist in the middle ground stronger

I will now Delete it from my computer

You can see why I was attracted to this scene. Under slightly better conditions it could have been a prize winner. There was snow on the mountain and it is surprising that it doesn't show up better.
Drove around the mountain the next day and got nothing worthwhile as for most of the day it was covered in clouds.
I did get a cliche in when first sighting this impressive feature. I will post it here as a reply.

You have a nice sharp focus on the Blossoms but not so on Fuji, what lens and settings are you using Hans.

Couple of thoughts for you.

The lens is my travel one a 18-250mm Sigma It was set with Aperature priority and manual focus. I would have to have a look at the data but I think f16. I don't mind the mountain not being dead sharp as it gives a bit of depth. I like the lens for my travels as it saves on a lot of weight. The biggest prints I make are for my yearly album which is a book 10x8 published by Blurb.
The foreground crop is very effective.

OK just another thought using Fuji to give depth to the shot by of setting it in a crop and bring the subject down to the blossoms also has it merit. Both subjects are shot Millions of times each year, But (I personally feel) mountains are like the moon there are only so many ways to shoot them whereas Blossoms always change throughout their life.
