G'day Barb
You are asking for feedback re: your latest masterpiece
May I say firstly - that it looks like many of mine .... rule of 3rds composition; lots of light & shade giving beaut roundness to the limbs; enough blue sky to know it wasn't raining, et etc
As to "where to from here" it could go several ways -
a) would a vertical format show more tree vs foliage?
b) would a different time of day give different lighting, therefore creating a very different structure to the tree?
c) if you did it at night via painting with torch-light, would that bring out just those limbs that attracted you, rather then the whole tree?
Lots oh hhmmmmm's there

i have heaps of these Barb and so have many others. So while it's a still good photo (has to be good when you use a lumi200 lol) we need to be looking for something different from the norm imo
Best way to explain is to show one that I very nearly delete as I considered it boring. The only difference between yours and mine was I was wandering around near in the last hour of the day and that gave a warmer image that I have warmed even more. But I was also able to "frame" the part I considered the import bit of the image.
The time of year when the bark is falling off is also important imo as there is much more character and interest in the tree/bark. But many others will prefer the shiny bark of yours.
Your image was well spotted because you are looking around and up and down for something that stands out from the norm. Good to see you posting in the more serious sections of the forum
and BTW I have unhealthy thing about Gum trees and gum tree bark lol. This is only 60 of 400++
And another thing; I really feel your file naming system is going crash sooner than laterLast edited by Lost; 27-08-2013, 05:11 PM.

Gum27 2 … gumtree taken on the 27, image #2 … stored (along with original) in dated folder … also stored in resized/landscape folder …
Thanks Phil & Ian … next time I see a gum to photograph … it will be "hmmmmmmmm" before 'click' …
Edit: as it should be before every photoLast edited by Sully; 27-08-2013, 05:35 PM.Barb

Fair enough Barb, you seem to have sorted, for now
so how about the landscape photo taken at whop whop with a water tank and windmill surrounded by gums and some large pine trees. There are cattle at the water tough and there beautiful massive storm clouds move in so a large mob of cockatoos are having fun in the sky .
Now tens years later; you have many thousands of photos on the computer and several hard drives........can you find that photo?
and you already own one of the best filing programs

ten years time we just need to click on a few of those and the photo will pop up.
we all think we will remember the photos we take but down the track it all gets a little to very confusing. Believe me; been there done that and it took me days to refile 1/2 my photos. The other 1/2; someday maybe
