  • Old Ship - Suggestions?

I bought a 1 x 0.5 M canvas ages ago but i haven't used it. Expires tomorrow - oops. Been trawling through my photo's to try and find something to print but not having much luck. I am thinking maybe this one, any thoughts or suggestions? Any pp tips?

Removed the Buoy, left the original in case people are interested in seeing what k8 and k1w1 are talking about.

I like this very much. If it were me, I would probably try to lighten the ship more and not 100% sure but maybe I would take out the orange buoy or at least I would like to see it with and without and then decide.

Thanks k8. I remember when i took this and at the time i dismissed all the photo's from that day. Didn't think much of them. I almost didn't even look in the folder because i remembered what i thought at the time, was pleasantly surprised when i found it.

I wasn't sure about the orange buoy, but i'll take it out and see how it looks.

I like the clouds in the first one better. More drama. Any chance of getting them into the second shot?

I tend to agree, maybe i can try an ND filter in lightroom. Any other suggestions?

What about a bit more contrast, saturation. It looks just a bit flat. Something like this - hope it's ok. I think I may have overdone it a bit, but you get the idea.

My indecision is final, I think.

Thanks sejac, looks a tad overdone but i like the way you're heading
can't get the ND filter to work anyway so will give contrast and saturation a go

with this one a upped the noise, sepia, antique filter and played with the levels too. also i cloned out some bits and pieces. on your pic black and white with a filter or two might look pretty good

I use photo shop for the level adjustments(PS7) and photoscape for the cropping(other buoys, people on the rocks etc) , convert to sepia, raised the noise level and fine a antique filter(or a cinema one) that wont cramp the main part of the pic eg the ship. I have never been trained on the editing programs i just click click click and see how it goes( its half the fun) I'm looking to get and updated version of everything one day!

its all trial and error mate, use the preview and you cant go wrong(just takes a while and you learn loads)
