  • Boab Tree

This one's from Honeymoon Bay right up the top end of the Kimberly.

Awesome shot Todd. Great subject matter with the sky and lighting up the tree. They are a very unusual looking tree indeed. We have one in Kings Park which was moved from our North West.
Here's a YOUTUBE of the trip and a SLIDESHOW. I have photos of it but can't locate them at present.

Thanks Greg. They certainly are an awesome tree. Pretty amazing that they moved a mature one so far.

Cheers Todd. The photos I had have been lost a long time ago so I'll just have to get back up there one day - be good to see it's progress.

I didn't really like this image. Fair bit wrong with it from a photography point of view but figured it's worth sharing anyway. Maybe get some extra insight.

Very interesting tree and definitely worth a share, but as you say the shot is a bit unbalanced and that swing looks out of place. All could be improved with a bit of processing.

What do you mean by unbalanced? Location? angle?

It could never be the location Toddy as I've never been there, but when I see something as unbalanced its usually something to do with the composition that's not working for me. At times it's not immediately obvious as to what that is until I have a play with it myself.

In this instance I see the ratio between the main subject and the rest of the image out of balance enough that it's hard for me to determine whether it was the sky that attracted you or the tree. So I've cropped the image to make the tree take up more of the frame with the sky playing a support role.

I've also rotated the image to make the swing hang in a more natural fashion.

My opinion only of course but this is what I mean by unbalanced.

Interesting shot but it doesn't quite work for me either. The swing grabs too much attention, and I think the tree dominates the image whereas it would be better for the sky dominating, with a smaller tree as a foreground feature for an awesome sky. It all depends on your objective though.

Edited: I was looking at Greg's edit rather than the original but my comment still applies. I still think more expanse of sky with a smaller tree would be a better image. Perhaps just tilting the camera up a little more, to show more sky and less empty foreground, would have made the difference.

Thanks Alan. Like I said I didn't like it but thought it worth seeing if others agreed
