It seems that most of Hobart has turned out to see this spectacle over the last week.

Jenne and I went down to the end of the road here last night and took photos of the Spectra light looking across Storm Bay to Hobart. A wide angle shot with a bit of the fading sunset. My photo was taken a little earlier than hers (see it in this Nightime subject) and I have a little less of the Spectra light and a little more of the fading sunset colours.

Thanks Lost. I get a thing in blue saying 'Attachment 20690' at the top of the post and if you click on this it gets the photo up. I don't know why it is doing it like this?

Love that top pic Pete, it really looks like a painting and gives a feeling of what it was actually like being at the bottom and gazing upwards in awe. As for the udderly grotesque thing that cost us all so much money, well it was colourful to say the least and you caught it well coz I didn't see its many eyes from where I was standing, only those udder things . Was a great experience though.

I like #3 in the first set, interesting to see how many beams make up what looks like a single beam in some shots.

I understand that the globes are xenon and that there must be a few of them in each of the 40 or so light box beam sources. We parked near the generator which was one of those trailer ones like they used to use for arc welders out in the field. The gennie was very well muffled and you could hardly hear it going standing near it. Apparently the lights draw the equivalent power of 10 houses. They also had a sound source and some very big speakers playing low amplitude sounds, as part of the instillation. Cheers, Pete.

Interesting info - especially about how much power they draw.

Great pics Pete. I read last night it cost a few hundreds of thousands of dollars for the lights to be shipped from Paris to Australia.
