    Thank you sooo much everyone for your comments and encouragement. I can't say enough about how thrilled we were to experience this. Pete got a lot of excellent ones as well. The funny thing was that I generally check this map each day to see if there is any activity (http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/pmap/pmapS.html) and didn't do so this particular day. Anyway as we were getting ready to retire for the night, I just happened to check my emails and there was an alert from one of the members in the aurora group saying it was active, we took one look at the map which was a giant fiery red - the best I had seen for quite a while and packed our bags and took off to the other end of the beach. So very lucky! 10 minutes to the east up near Port Arthur it was raining!
