  • Yesterdays effort

Hey Guys (and Gals). I went for a bit of a walk yesterday to see if I could have another go at Macro stuff. All in all, it was a fun couple of hours. These are my favorites so far, with probably another 4 or 5 that show some promise.

As always, keen to hear any suggestions for improvement.

Well done Mick. I like how you've made the effort to compose the background of your shots, none of them are to busy in that they distract from the subject. Good job capturing the ant so well, they are quick little buggars.

Thanks Herby. The ant was definately the hardest, he is only a couple of mm long and trying to catch one standing still was near impossible. I also like how the top of the post looks like the Grand Canyon in that shot ...

          Nice shots Mick, looks good.

CC? Basic comp's look good, particularly the ant, beetle and spider. A little fill flash for shadows helps at times. At others it helps to shade the creature from the sun to avoid blown highs, refracted light and high contrast. Also helps keep the detail and sharpness when using 'diffused' flash since it is the effective SS, up to 1/50,000sec.

Cheers Mark, thanks for the comments and CC. The sun was a problem for me as I had nothing with me to diffuse the harsh light, will take something next time i venture out. Macro is not something i am really spending a lot of time on, but when i do i am really enjoying it.
