  • UK spiders

We don’t have any dangerous spiders here in the UK. Only about 10 species are capable of biting us and the worst is little more than a honey bee sting. Here is a selection taken locally.

All taken handheld and are live subjects doing their thing in the field. I don’t do the capture and freeze or kill thing as it just would feel wrong. Click image for larger version

No need to 'rip 'em apart' as you invite via your sig ...
Beaut images, super sharp eyes on several of them ~ and I know how small these little critters are, so these pics are a credit to you

All excellent images Phil. Lighting, composition, focus and exposure all done well. Being at the subject’s level also adds to the impact.

            All,

Many thanks for your kind words. I always enjoy photographing spiders but am aware plenty cringe at even seeing a photo of them.

            Grumpy John,

If I remember correctly these were all taken with the Canon EF-S 60mm, my favourite lens. The exception was the dangling crab spider which was with the MPE65. I also have the Canon 100L macro but barely use is preferring the shorter lenses on a crop camera.

I have bought the RF 85mm macro lens for my R6 mirrorless. Yet to put it to it's intended use.

Very nice set! Certainly got an array of spiders that like the cold!
