A very frustrating genre

I tend to use my macro lens more for portraits but grabbed the camera quickly yesterday to catch a young kooka feeding on our lawn and macro was on it. Of course the bird flew off but decided to see what was about.

The stilt fly kept taking off and landing so this was the best I got


A small spider trying to hide behind the leaves - think there was some camera shake here - need a lighter kit for macro as suggested by Mark.

Pretty good I recon Gabby. You could probably improve both images with a little cropping but you've nailed the subjects!

I agree ↑↑... some very fine detail in these. Damn good considering you were gunna capture a Kooka....

Thanks guys. The stilt fly is about a 50% crop already, the spider only a slight crop as he was far more co-operative about staying still.

Not bad at all Gabby,macro is tricky as you need a very small aperture to get a usable DOF,I use f18 mostly,but I have the advantage of a Macro Flash,makes a huge difference on what you can do.

Thanks Kevin. Getting and keeping focus is my main problem which is why I find it so frustrating. Need stronger muscles and far younger eyes
