  • Platypus

After several days of dawn and dusk vigils beside the river with only brief glimpses, this one came to hunt right in front of the viewing position. While I have seen them in the wild several times before I have never had such a good or length view.

Taken at Broken River, Eungella National Park, near Mackay, Qld.

The photos won't win any prizes because of the glare from the relatively bright sky but I was pleased to get them. All with Nikon D850 and 500mm PF f/5.8 lens.

Thanks Mark. I believe that the scientists in Europe thought they had been stitched together when the first specimens were sent back..

Great to get any shots of Platypus Alan. Have you invested in a CPL? Great for when you go on photo expeditions, especially with water animals and mammals. Just like polaroid glasses for your lens.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

I have several polarising filters but not one to fit the 500mm lens. At f/5.6 I need all the light I can get.

Excellent shot Alan. Quite a hodgepodge of an animal.
    Fujifilm X-T5, XF16-80 f/4, XF70-300 f/4-5.6, XF23 f/2, XF35 f/2, XF150-600 f/5.6-8, and a random assortment of 35mm film cameras.

Thanks. it's certainly the best view I've ever had in the wild of one and they are a unique animal.
