    A little pest when there is jam around, but actually a good insect to have in the garden...

    Excellent photo Mark. Maybe because of where it is looking a ROT crop would perhaps give it a different look but other than that for me the colours and detail are brilliant. We have the European wasp here and they are a menace but our local wasps are good for our ecology, just like bees. From the colours and antennae, the one in your image looks like the German wasp or Common wasp - one of the good guys. I didn't know they could be trained to detect explosives or illegal drugs! What an amazing creature!

                Nicely done. They seem to be fond of chardonay as well.
